I own both a 3rd and 4th gen Apple TV, and recently subscribed to the DirecTV Now app in anticipation of 'cutting the cord' and go to streaming TV only. I got the app installed on my 4th gen and love it (I actually got the 4th gen free by prepaying for 3 months of DirecTV Now for $105, which was $35/month x 3 months in advance). However, I can't download the app to my 3rd gen. Is there any viable option to get it on my 3rd gen? If I have already downloaded DirecTV Now to my other apple devices via iTunes store, can I not select it from previous purchases and install? Could I get a developers account and add the DirecTV Now app as a developer? Or is my 3rd gen already THAT obsolete?
While you can't directly use DirecTV satellite on that Apple TV, you probably can access many of DirecTV's channels by installing the network's apps on the Apple TV (e.g. FXNow, ESPNGo, and others). Just use your DirecTV account credentials to enable the networks' apps on the Apple TV.
