Software Like Synthesia

Piano virtual studio technology is a software that emulates the sound of a piano. There is absolutely no piano hardware involved. You just need a MIDI controller, preferably with 88 total keys to emulate a real piano and a computer to play it on. This software can be hosted in DAWs like Ableton, Logic or FL Studio.

Hi all,
I just turned 28 and wanted to try something new in my life, so I decided learning the piano would be a fun thing to do (along with studying Mandarin, ugh!).
I have discovered Synthesia and have fallen in love.
This is what I want to do:

Hi everyone:D I wanted to ask anybody who reads this if they know of a program like Synthesia? It is a program that shows you how to play piano but it also shows you how to play songs with other instruments and that isn't what I want:( I thought that Synthesia was just going to be a program where it shows you how to play songs just for piano but I guess not. Synthesia 10.6 for Windows 7 and later. Synthesia 10.6 for Windows (zip package) Synthesia 10.6 for macOS 10.8 and later. . Toggle loops on/off with the key. Set your zoom level to Custom, then match the screen to your keyboard. Install more easily on Windows in a single click. Enjoy 48 more improvements and fixes! Synthesia 10.1 Jan-06-2015. Theres this good software i like to use called piano teacher and sheet music, it's quite old but i find it helps quite well. All jokes aside i'd definantly reccomend a teacher over these programs and if you really can't do that then at least try and learn sheet music on your own, you won't be able to learn some of the harder pieces without sheet music knowledge.

  • Learn Piano sheet reading using a) ebooks b) (more likely) computer software c) info on the web

  • Use software like Synthesia to have fun and play some great songs, hopefully being able to read the sheets along the way

  • The problem is, I don't know what to get. Here's where I am hardware-wise.

  • I have a capable laptop Dell Inspiron 1520, 4gb RAM, XP SP3, etc.

  • Downstairs, we have a Shaffer and Son (sp?) piano that my sister has all but abandoned. When I get to the point of being able to actually PLAY the piano well, this will be my option -- View image here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif --
I was thinking about buying a USB-interfaceable piano, but the prices turned me off. Then I realized what I really wanted -- a midi-controller. I am not a hardcore pianist (yet) so I feel like this may be a viable option for me.
My budget is variable. I'm thinking up to $500, but that's really the upppppper limit. Here are the models I investigated:

  • M-Audio Keystation 88es USB MIDI Keyboard Controller
    Pros:
    1) 88 keys
    2) No extra fluff, dials, screens, etc
    3) USB POWERED!!!
    4) Direct usb connection
    5) $200 shipped and no tax
    Cons:
    1) Semi-weighted keys (not full heavy weighted keys like a real piano)

  • M-Audio Keystation 61es USB MIDI Keyboard Controller
    Pros:
    1) No extra fluff, dials, screens, etc
    2) USB POWERED!!!
    3) Direct usb connection
    4) $145 shipped and no tax
    Cons:
    1) Semi-weighted keys (not full heavy weighted keys like a real piano)
    2) Only 61 keys! This will be a big hindrance to playing piano, me thinks

  • Studiologic SL-990XP 88-Key MIDI Controller
    1) Only some extra fluff, dials, etc
    2) Direct usb connections )I'm guessing)
    3) !! hammer-action keys!!
I have no idea if it's USB powered, but that would be nice.
    CONS:
    1) $379 shipped
    2) Unknown name? M-Audio is more familiar to me.
What do you guys think? I know some may dissuade made away from a midi controller, but I feel like I want to control everything (including sounds) from my laptop. That's what I love about the MIDI controller -- everything is dependent upon the software, which will make my transition into learning much easier/funner.
I'm also looking for software recommendations regardless of what route (MIDI Controller or Digital Piano) I go for.
Some useful software I've found so far:
    1) Synthesia
    2) Genuine Soundware KeyPerformer
